Collaborations and Partnerships

India is proactively engaging with various non-governmental maritime organizations (NGOs) to enhance its efforts in maritime safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental protection. These collaborations help align India’s maritime framework with international best practices and support its growing role in global maritime governance.

Key Collaborations:

  • Memorandum of Understanding with IGP&I
India is working towards an MoU with the International Group of P&I Clubs (IGP&I) to strengthen cooperation in maritime liability, risk management, and claims settlement. This partnership will significantly improve India’s capability to manage maritime risks and liabilities efficiently.
  • Partnership with INTERTANKO
Engagement with the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners (INTERTANKO) is aimed at enhancing tanker safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting sustainable practices in the maritime sector. The collaboration focuses on fostering safe and environmentally responsible tanker operations.
  • Collaboration with ICS and IMCA
India’s association with the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) ensures alignment with global maritime policies. Meanwhile, collaboration with the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) promotes offshore safety and operational excellence, ensuring that India’s offshore operations conform to international standards.
  • Role in IOPC Funds
As the highest contributor to the International Oil Pollution Compensation (IOPC) Funds, India holds a prominent role in the Joint Audit Body. This involvement ensures the effective functioning of oil pollution compensation systems, providing timely financial support for spill response and damage compensation.
  • Engagement with OCIMF
Cooperation with the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) focuses on enhancing safety protocols, spill prevention, and environmental protection. This partnership helps India maintain the highest standards of maritime safety and environmental stewardship.
