Port Security ISPS Code
The Directorate General of Shipping is dedicated to ensuring maritime security by aligning with international standards and regulations, including the ISPS Code, SOLAS, and MARSEC. As part of its mission, DGS collaborates with global bodies like the IMO and regional organizations to address security challenges such as piracy, terrorism, and illegal activities at sea. The Directorate General of Shipping is responsible for implementing the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code in India to enhance maritime security. The ISPS Code, under the SOLAS Convention, ensures safety by detecting and preventing threats to ships and port facilities. The Directorate implements the following functions:
- Approving Ship Security Plans and monitoring compliance.
- Coordinating with port authorities, shipping companies, and government agencies.
- Responding to security breaches promptly.
