IMO Participation

The Engineering Wing actively participates in various technical committees and sub-committees of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), including the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) and Maritime Safety Committee (MSC).

The Wing also engages with specialized sub-committees such as the Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping (HTW), Ship Design and Construction (SDC), Ship Systems and Equipment (SSE), Pollution Prevention and Response (PPR), and the London Convention (LC).

These engagements involve representing India’s interests in critical discussions on GHG emission reduction, ballast water management, alternative fuel adoption, and other technical and safety standards for ships.

Additionally, the Wing plays a pivotal role in shaping market-based measures in shipping, aligning with IMO strategies for greenhouse gas (GHG) control to ensure a sustainable future for the industry. Through its expert inputs, the Wing significantly contributes to shaping global maritime policies and technical standards.
