Frequently Asked Questions

NMDC celebrates the following four days every year:

  • National Maritime Day / Merchant Navy Week (29th/30th March to 5th April every year): The main objective is to highlight the role of Indian shipping in the transportation industry and promote its development through events and publications. The day recognizes contributions to the national shipping sector and includes awards and welfare-related initiatives.
  • International Day for Women in Maritime (18th May): Celebrates women's contributions to the maritime sector and promotes gender equality as per the UN Sustainable Development Goal 5.
  • Day of the Seafarer (25th June): Acknowledges seafarers' contributions and sacrifices to the world economy and civil society. NMDC presents certificates of appreciation to cadets who excel in their examinations.
  • World Maritime Day (Any day of the last week of September): Recognizes the maritime industry's role in the global economy, first observed in 1978.
