Principal Officer- cum- Joint Director (Tech) The Principal Officer of the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) is the final decision-making authority within the department. He is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of ships and personnel in their jurisdiction. The PO also forwards reports to the DGS (Directorate General of Shipping) on specific issues requiring DGS, Chief Surveyor, or Nautical Adviser involvement. The PO's jurisdiction typically covers a specific port or region.
